never thought that i would be complaining about the hot weather in England..
when i was in Jakarta, it was normal to be sweating all the time because of the heat. With average of 30 degrees Celcius of temperature all the year round, one cant really complain about it.
But when i came to England, the first thing that i bought from Argos was a portable heater! Well, partly because i arrived in the autumn and the weather at that time was a little bit nippy. Anyway, since then, buying an air conditioner or a fan was the last thing in my mind... until now!
for the past few weeks the weather here has been unbelievable hot! and i dont mean hot as in a nice warm kind of weather.... i meant, hot as in when you walk down the road in the centre of Jakarta in the middle of the day with all your working suits on kind of hot!
the heat in here has hit the
record on Wednesday with 36 degrees of Celcius, and it was enough for me to open all the windows in the house and started to browse for a cheap portable fan through Argos online shop.
and everybody was surprised by my non-stop-complaints about the heat... they'd say, "hey, you're from a tropical country, you should be familiar with this kind of weather!"... but, D'UH... we have air-conditioning everywhere... and i was so used to spend time indoors whenever the sun is up.... if i had to go out, i would be in my car with the A/C on full power! *gosh, how i miss home right now*
anyway... to make things worse.. here, i have to walk everywhere... even if i have to take a bus, i would have to be crammed with the other 40 people in it, and guess what, NO AIR CONDITIONING!! *hysterical*
to my surpise, the government in here even released a warning because of this
heatwave . It was all over the first page on every newspapers i see, and it's being broadcasted countless of times on the telly and radio. i mean, gosh, we got the similar temperature back home, but i never see our government carrying out a warning like that.
anyway.. it seems that they're taking this heatwave thing pretty seriously.. they'd be having people giving out bottled water at tube stations, and i even got dozens of bottled water when i took a train from London to Bournemouth. so that was kinda cool, i got to save around 60 pence in buying one... *fyi, 60 pence of GBP equals to 10'145.5 IDR, and i could get a Happy Meal from McDonald with that kinda money back home*
h o w e v e r, one thing that i hate the most at times like this is... my skin is getting darker!!! *crying*
seriously, when i go home later in the year, nobody would believe me if i told them i've been in England... cause my skin is sooooo tanned now. They wouldve thought that i've been in Medan or Surabaya instead of here... buhuhuhu... T_T
so... unlike the other British people who would grab their swimsuits and head to beach everyday in a weather like this, i prefer to go to the university library and vegetate in its full-air-conditined study rooms all day, hahaha...
things that i like about summer in here... i finally get to wear an open-toed sandals and shoes. i dont have to dress up in millions of layers that would make me look like a marshmallow man from the Michelin ads. and all my laundry dries up really quickly too! hehehe...
so, mum, dad, bros, sis... this is the best time for u all to come and visit me... the weather here is just like Jakarta now, so u'd feel right at home... ^_^
